Hello, all. Ni hao. After working for a fabulous ESL company for two years, I have decided to branch out. There are so many wonderful opportunities out there,and I want to have the chance to pick up some referrals for extra money. You can do this eventually, as well, but that is not where you will make the bulk of your money from working for these companies. I don't want you to think that this is some sort of pyramid scheme, so I'm going to be as translucent as I possibly can.
1) Yes. I make money from referrals,but the company pays me, and this does not cost you a thing!
2.)You do not ever have to refer, and you can make a pretty decent income for part time stay at home work. (Most companies will average around $20 per hour/part time hours).
3.) I want you to use my referral code, or I don't get paid. I will be able to track my referrals through the companies' system, and as long as I see you have used my code, I will help you through every step of the way.
Now, let me give you a bit of common misconceptions about teaching ESL that people who have never done it often have.
1.) You do not need to know Chinese. There is no benefit to even knowing Chinese because you will be speaking ONLY English to your students.
2.) 99.9% of these companies are legit. Don't be afraid that it comes from China, like some Americans are. You can research online reviews, and you'll find that what I am saying is true. There are pros and cons to all of these companies, but I have literally never ran into one that was an actual scam.
3.)You mostly need a BA degree or at least be enrolled in college. Transcripts work fine for proof.
4.)This is China. Time zones are different, so working hours are mostly as early as 4am and as late as 10am. There are weekend evening slots as well and extra Summer hours you can pick up.
5.) Other requirements are usually: Stable internet, laptop, headphones, and decent lighting. A nice background is preferable and,with some companies, required.
6.)You will need to smile a lot and use TPR. Go find my videos on TPR and read about them.
7.) You will need to get an online TESOL certification. With a Groupon, you are likely to find a program for less than $25
8.)You pick slot times. They pay by the class, not the hour.
9.)Every company has their pros and cons. Be sure to look at my company comparison post. 10.) For the applications, you will most likely need to do introduction videos. For some companies, your video is your sell point, so get my help with that!
11.) You need to be a native English speaker, and also from North America or Europe for the most part. Each companies' requirements are different.
